What is Kinesiology Tape?
Also known as K Tape
-
Kinesiology tape, or K tape, is an elastic adhesive tape that is used for a wide variety of purposes- from athletic injuries and pain, to support and circulation for swelling and edema.

Why would I use K tape?
K tape can be used on horses for a wide variety of reasons such as:
-
TMJ pain
-
Neck support
-
Tendon support
-
Proprioception
-
Edema
-
Supporting the shoulder, lumbar, hock or SI area
-
Muscular fatigue from an increase in training
-
Stifle concerns
-
Seasonal mare pain
-
Arthritis
-
Abdominal and core support
-
Recovery from injuries
-
Trailering support

How does Kinesiology tape work?
-
Kinesiology tape lifts the hair and skin. With this decompression of tissue, blood and oxygen can circulate, allowing nutrients in and supporting the lymphatic system.
-
Kinesiology tape also works neurologically for pain relief. Decompressing the muscle and fascia helps change the nerve impulses moving toward the brain. With reduced pain impulses, the muscles can release some tension with the decompression from the tape.

If I sign up for a full bodywork session, how do I know what the tape is for and what to do with it?
Instructions will always be sent with the session notes. Depending on weather, cleanliness, and where the tape is applied, K tape may stick for a few hours to up to 7 days. Most tape applications last 3-5 days.

Why would I want to apply tape after a massage?
-
K taping sore, fatigued muscles after a massage will assist in extending the benefits of the massage for as long as the tape it applied. Additionally, the tape can continue to support pain relief and decompression on problem areas after the massage session ends.

What if I only book a kinesiology taping and not a massage, will it still work?
Kinesiology taping works quite well on its own as a solo service. All of the benefits to K tape will still be there without the massage. Adding a massage to the session will extend the massage as well as add in the benefits to K tape for your horse.
